Supertubos · Peniche — Reef Mechanics, Channels & Wind Shadow

Host of the WSL Championship Tour — when the rest of the West Coast is blown out by North winds, Supertubos is groomed offshore perfection.

TAKEOFF CAUTION: STEEP DROP OVER SHALLOW BOTTOM. WATCH YOUR DEPTH ON WIPEOUTS.

Wave Dynamics (Beach Break): Long-period groundswell trains (14s+) undergo immediate refraction upon contacting the submarine volcanic shelf, concentrating 175 kJ of wave energy onto the takeoff bowl while peeling cleanly. The adjacent entry channel drains water smoothly without dragging surfers into the impact zone.

1. GOLDEN ENTRY & EXIT PROTOCOL

Paddle out beside the harbor jetty channel between sets. Because the beach faces SSW, Portugal's prevailing North wind ('Nortada') blows straight offshore into the barrel.

Max High Tide: {tide}m: 2.10m•Min Low Tide: {tide}m: 0.40m
2. LOCAL WATER HAZARDS
  • •Extremely heavy pitching lip breaking in shallow sand
  • •Competitive crowd on the main WSL peak during classic swells
